There are two main student-theater groups on campus which, while independent, operate in conjunction with the Department and the Robsham.
- The Dramatics Society is the oldest student-run organization at Boston College and is the historical origin of theater production on campus. It is governed by a board of seven student officers who are elected in the spring by those who have worked on DS productions. In addition to producing one play a semester, the group organizes an annual end-of-year banquet and other social activities.
- Contemporary Theatre produces one musical and one straight play per year, as well as a third more experimental piece created by one of its officers towards the end of the year. CT also sponsors occasional workshops and organizes social activities. Its nine student officers are elected by the current board in the spring.
Other performing arts groups include After Hours Theater, which mounts late-night productions of original ten-minute plays; the Committee for Creative Enactments, which produces original interactive murder mysteries; improvisation groups such as My Mother's Fleabag and Hello ... Shovelhead; and dance groups such as Dance Ensemble and Dance Organization of Boston College.
