Undergraduate Research. Boston College provides various grants and fellowships in support of students who work with faculty or independently on scholarly or creative projects. For details, consult a faculty member or visit University Fellowship Committee or Undergraduate Research Opportunites.
Council of Majors. The Council of Majors was formed in 1995 as a student-faculty forum for discussing pressing issues, planning various events, and strengthening the Robsham community. The dozen or so theater majors on Council serve as liaisons to the student body, mentors to freshmen, and volunteers in support of Department activities. Current COM members are listed here. Feel free to contact any of them with any questions or concerns you might have.
Listserv. The Department maintains an email listserv as a way of promoting communication and sharing news within the campus theater community about theater-related matters. If you would like to subscribe to the Theater Listserv, contact the admin.
Student Producing Groups. There are many student-run performing arts organizations on campus, including the Dramatics Society and Contemporary Theatre, two longstanding student theater groups that produce a play or a musical at least once a semester.
Student Employment. There are a limited number of work-study positions in the scene shop and the costume shop. Students who have completed Elements of Theatre Production I & II may apply. The box office hires students to handle ticket sales and house management. There are also a few positions for student assistants to the Director of the Robsham Theater Arts Center and the Chair of the Theatre Department.
Summer Training and Internships. The Department encourages students, especially theater majors, to take time in the summers to pursue internship and training opportunities. Students develop new skills, gain insight into the world of professional theater, and make connections that often lead to employment after graduation. Some summer programs earn academic credit.
Theater in Boston. Boston is a major arts center that is home to dozens of theaters, large and small, with affordable student and rush ticket prices. The Department encourages students to get off campus to attend theater events on a regular basis.
