PULSE Program

Frequently Asked Questions

How will my placement work be graded?

PULSE placement work constitutes 40% of the overall course grade. Classroom work will make up the other 60% of the course grade. Failure in either placement work or classroom work will result in failure of the PULSE course as a whole.

Placement evaluations are completed the end of each semester.  Evaluation forms are sent directly to the placement supervisors from the PULSE office. These forms follow the same format as the Learning Work Agreement. Supervisors are asked to meet with you to discuss your evaluation before your grade is submitted to the PULSE office.

The placement evaluation form includes the following questions:

For the PULSE placement supervisor:

  1. How far do you think the student has come in reaching the learning goals stated in the LWA?
  2. How well has the student performed the tasks outlined in the LWA?
  3. How far has the student come in developing and/or exhibiting the qualities listed in the LWA?
  4. Has the student been faithful to the schedule outlined in the LWA?  List any absences.
  5. How well did the student adhere to your policies on punctuality, absences and missed shifts, and make-up work?
  6. In general, has the student been responsible in his/her commitment to your agency?
  7. Describe any areas in which the student might improve.

For the PULSE student:

  • Describe what you have learned from your placement work this semester/this year.  How far do you think you have come in fulfilling the learning goals stated in your LWA?
  • After a semester at your placement, would you revise your learning goals?  If so, how?  (Fall only)
  • How do you feel about the tasks you performed at your placement?
  • Have you received sufficient guidance from your supervisor?  Where could you use more guidance? (Fall only)
  • What do you think has been your most important contribution to your placement?  (Spring only)
  • Respond to your supervisor's evaluation of your performance at your placement.
