Boston Career Link

Nature and Purpose
Boston Career Link (BCL) is a one-stop career center operated by Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries (Goodwill). Boston Career Link's mission is to provide state of the art services that successfully connect the businesses and job seekers of Greater Boston. Our efforts support the workforce and employer community, as well as Goodwill's mission to provide independence and dignity through work. Approximately 7,400 job seekers utilize BCL's services annually, with over 1,000 successful placements and 200 approved accounts for occupation skills training.  We are especially committed to welcoming, guiding and successfully placing disadvantaged job seekers with various employment barriers. Customers have access to 12 computers in our resources library, as well as various skill building workshops. We also conduct employer recruitment sessions and quarterly job fairs.

We are especially committed to working with individuals who have significant barriers to employment including a limited or no work history, limited education, and language barriers.  We strive to help job seekers get a job with a career path that will help to alleviate homelessness and poverty and help the individual achieve self-sufficiency.  We seek to work with 4 particular groups of job seekers; youth, veteran's, persons with disabilities, and low income adults.

Tasks
PULSE students' primary responsibilities will be to guide job seekers through individualized job-acquisition steps, with computer-based assistance to job seekers in the resource room and/or job club when appropriate. Services include teaching job seekers how to set up an e-mail account, cut and paste a resume and cover letter into an e-mail, sending a resume as an attachment, using the Internet, and completing an on-line job application. Students with good writing skills might help job seekers write a resume and/or cover letter. Students will also assist the staff with projects or assignments as directed and requested. Other duties will include assisting front desk staff with registrations, enrolling customers in workshops, helping with customer traffic and other tasks as needed. Students will assist the Business Services team in coordinating and conducting on site employer recruitment session and our quarterly job fairs.

PULSE students may also have the opportunity to teach a computer class.
