Nature and Purpose
Another Course to College (ACC) is a college preparatory Boston Public Pilot School serving 220 students in grades 9-12. We prepare students for success at the post-secondary level through a rigorous, writing intensive curriculum. Because of our high expectations and high level of individualized student support, we require students to be accepted to college in order to graduate from ACC. Another Course to College has been recognized by National Public Radio, U.S. News and World Report, and The Boston Globe as a "high flying pilot school." This is especially significant because we have no special admissions policy; students are assigned by Boston's district-wide lottery.
Tasks
PULSE students will function as tutors during our AVID classes, which meet during the school day, from 12:40 - 3:30. AVID is a college readiness curriculum that includes small group tutorials two days per week. PULSE students can also participate as tutors in our drop-in after school program from 3:30 - 5:30. There may also be opportunities to assist some of our faculty members in their extra curricular advising for various clubs and activities after school. PULSE students should expect to commit two days per week in the afternoon.

Supervision
PULSE students will take immediate direction from the ACC teacher with whom they are paired. They will also be accountable to ACC's Dean of Students, who will arrange schedules, match tutors with teachers, and account for time spent in the building. Together, the Dean and the ACC faculty will provide orientation to both the school community as a whole, the AVID curriculum, and the role of the tutor in increasing student achievement
