PULSE ANNOUNCES A NEW 2-SEMESTER COURSE FOR FALL 2009
Witness: Writings on Service, Spirituality and Social Justice

(A Student Publication Course)

This two-semester elective will produce a journal of student writings on issues of social justice, based on student service experiences and intellectual reflection.  The journal will be open to all undergraduate writers, photographers and artists.  The course will examine the ways in which oppressed populations have been empowered to move into their own significant speech by telling their stories to outsiders, with emphasis on the ethical issues raised by this form of witness.  Readings of James Agee, Robert Coles, Jonathon Kozol and others will prepare students to design, edit, produce and distribute the journal and complementary e-zine.  Enrollment by permission.  Professor Kathleen Hirsch: kathleen.hirsch.1@bc.edu
