Samantha Allen Storey
After I graduated I worked as a full time volunteer through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC). An experience I felt well prepared for from my classes I took within the PULSE program and acting as a Council Member. I moved from Boston to rainy but lush Oregon and worked in a domestic violence homeless shelter as a children's advocate. The weather wasn't too much of a shock, being that I'm originally from a very rainy climate: London. But the job, was an amazing experience, both the volunteering an dliving in community.
After my year in the JVC I moved to Seattle where I have lived ever since. I've been trying to find a "vocation" rather than a "career," as David McMenamin would say, and have worked a variety of jobs from editing to freelance writing to cooking. Right now I've found a job that I love at a literary arts nonprofit organization: Seattle Arts & Lectures. Being an enormous lover of books this seems an ideal job for me. The organization has several programs from a lecture series to an adult continuing education program to teaching creative writing to under privileged children. I mostly do graphic design and coordinate the website. Since graduation I have also managed to acquire a couple of cats along the way (Belle & Sebastian) and a rather hefty collection of philosophy books (thanks to PULSE for that)! So, if any of you happen to be in the Pacific Northwest neck of the woods, please give me a call or email. I'd love to hear from you again.
