Psychology Department

Major Requirements

These pages present the requirements for fulfilling the psychology major. Some of these requirements can be fulfilled by any of several courses, and there are few constraints on the order in which you must take courses.

This flexibility and the fact that most students take extra courses in psychology and related fields means that you will have to do some planning to make sure that you choose courses in a way that makes sense for your educational goals.

If you are serious about your education in psychology, and if you seek a challenging curriculum that gives you the most for your tuition dollar, you will want to consider carefully which of the many opportunities suit you. The best way to begin is by gathering information and opinions from several sources, including of course this web site.

You should feel free to consult with the faculty, especially your faculty advisor, whose job it is to assist you in this process. Then, you must use that background to make decisions. Planning an excellent education is a challenging task that is well worth all the effort you devote to it. Lastly, keep in mind that the planning you do should reflect some long-range goals in addition to short term objectives.
