Scholarly Interests: The social, cultural, and economic circumstances related to young children's experiences, learning and development, with an interest in children and families in US and African communities. Domestic and international social policies and programs for young children and families.
Academic Profile: Professor Morelli joined the faculty in the fall of 1989. Much of her research involves the study of children and families in two communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where she has lived and worked for over 20 years. She is co-director of the Ituri Fund, which supports the health and education of people of the Ituri Forest. More recently, Professor Morelli's research interests have broaden to include the role of public policy in the lives of children and their families, with a focus on welfare reform and poor and working poor US families. She was a public policy fellow for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and presently consults with DHHS on research related to children and families in poverty. Morelli teaches Introduction to Psychology as a Social Science, Children, Families and Government, Child Development from Cultural Perspective.
