Scholarly Interests: Effects of shared enthusiasm; the development of individual differences: fear of success, healthy, and conventional orientations to success; psychological separateness and narcissism; psychology of self-esteem and of adult children of alcoholics.
Academic Profile: Professor Canavan joined the faculty in 1970, after completing a Post-doctoral fellowship at UCLA. Her research has been concentrated in the areas of social and personality psychology. She is currently completing a series of studies in support of her theory of “social energy.” Professor Canavan teaches courses in Introductory Psychology and various courses in the areas personality theory and individual differences.
