Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Tenure-Track
Area of Specialty: Pragmatism
Areas of Competence: Broad competence in the history of philosophy; one or more of the following: metaphysics, theory of knowledge, aesthetics, philosophy of language, philosophy of religion, philosophy of mind. We are looking for an individual working on topics in contemporary American philosophy, well grounded in the pragmatist tradition, and prepared for dialogue with colleagues and students, many of whom identify with the continental European (phenomenological, hermeneutical) tradition. The successful candidate will have a record of strong research combined with outstanding research potential, and demonstrated excellence in teaching philosophy. Responsibilities include undergraduate core and elective courses and graduate courses (3-2 course load), plus Ph.D. supervision and service to the department. The department supports an interdisciplinary core program in the study of major philosophical and religious texts (Perspectives on Western Culture) and a program of ethical, political, and theological analysis for students engaged in service programs (PULSE Program). Ability to contribute to all the above will be regarded as an asset.
