MUSP 1925 Instruction for Credit
Individual instruction on a musical instrument, or in voice or composition is open to any Boston College student upon consultation with the Music department. Students are assigned to an approved teacher for an hour a week lesson beginning the second or third week of classes. The semester fee is $620 for 11 lessons. The student taking lessons for credit will also be required to attend 3 or 4 master classes and/or workshops in order to meet the Federal guidelines of 15 hours of class time per single credit. One credit is given for a semester's lessons, graded on a pass-fail basis. To receive full course credit of three hours, a student must pass three semesters on the same instrument.
MUSP 1900, 1910, and 1920 Instruction for Non-Credit
Individual instruction on a musical instrument, or in voice or composition is open to any Boston College student upon consultation with the Music department. Students are assigned to an approved teacher for an hour, 45 minutes or half-hour a week lesson beginning the second or third week of classes. The semester fee of $600 for an hour, $450 for 45 minutes, or $300 for 30 minutes covers 11 lessons each semester.
Lessons are normally held on the Newton Campus at Mary House. There are five practice rooms available at Mary House on a regular basis for those taking lessons. Mary House is open Sunday through Thursday evenings 5:30 to 11:00 p.m. Mary House is only open during the Spring and Fall Semester. Mary House telephone (general line) is 617-552-3395. There are also 10 Practice Studios in Lyons Hall, Room 401 on the Chestnut Hill Campus. These practice studios may be booked by Music Majors, Music Minors, students participating in Individual Instruction and Chamber Music groups at BC for up to one hour each day, if available. BC faculty, staff and enrolled students of BC not formally involved in Music may book a studio for 30 minutes each day, if available on a limited basis. The Lyons Hall practice studios are open during the academic year and are also available sporadically during the summer months, due to limited staffing and instrument maintenance that occurs during the summer months.
Fees for the lessons are added to the term bill payable at beginning of semester.
Lesson registration for the fall 2016 semester will begin in early-August. Students must complete the registration survey for proper placement and enrollment. (The online survey will be made available on the Music Department website in early-August.) The Music Department will collect all responses and enroll students after drop/add in September.
