Music 099—Instruction for Credit:
Individual instruction on a musical instrument, or in voice or composition is open to any Boston College student upon consultation with the Music Department. Students are assigned to an approved teacher for an hour a week lesson beginning the second or third week of classes. The semester fee is $560 for eleven lessons. One credit is given for a semester's lessons, graded on a pass-fail basis. (To receive full course credit of three hours, a student must pass three semesters on the same instrument).
Music 100—Instruction for Non-Credit:
Individual instruction on a musical instrument, or in voice or composition is open to any Boston College student upon consultation with the Music Department. Students are assigned to an approved teacher for an hour, 45 minutes or half-hour a week lesson beginning the second or third week of classes. The semester fee of $560 for an hour, $420 for 45 minutes, or $300 for 30 minutes covers eleven lessons each semester.
Location:
Lessons are normally held on the Newton Campus at Mary House. Practice rooms are available at Mary House on a regular basis for those taking lessons. Mary House telephone 552-3395.
Fees:
Fees for the lessons are added to the term bill payable at beginning of semester.
IMPORTANT:
You must consult Mary Ellen Royer the Music Department (LYONS 407, phone 552-8720) to obtain a registration form. This must be done BEFORE THE END OF THE DROP/ADD PERIOD. THIS CANNOT BE DROPPED AFTER THAT TIME AND NO REFUNDS ARE ISSUED.
Music lessons for credit may accrue to three academic credits, the equivalent of one elective. Performance classes can NEVER be counted for Fine Arts Core credit.

PRACTICE FACILITIES
The Music Department manages practice facilities at two locations on campus.
On the Main Campus, in Lyons Hall, Room 401 houses 10 practice rooms each with an upright piano. The Lyons Practice Studios are available when the building is open on a first-come, first-serve basis, though students may reserve studios beforehand. See the regulations posted in Lyons 401.
On the Newton Campus, Mary House (where lessons are taught) contains 8 rooms, of which 5 rooms have baby grand pianos. Mary House is available for use in the evenings and at selected hours on the weekend; see below for opening and hours.
