Re:  Performance opportunities at BC

First, let me add my voice to the chorus you've heard many times, "Welcome to BC!"

This letter is to let you know about some of the performance opportunities we offer at BC, and more importantly, how to find out more about them.

The Music Department will be holding an informational meeting on Sunday, August 30 at 2:00 pm in Lyons Hall 423 during which you will be able to learn about the many performance opportunities offered in the Music Department.  In addition, you will also have a chance to meet other music faculty members and current music students who will be available to talk with you and answer your questions, and there will be fabulous homemade cookies!  I encourage anyone who is or might be interested in any of the Music Department offerings to attend.

In addition, the BC Arts Council will host a welcome reception in the Bonn Studio at Robsham Theatre Thursday, August 27 from 1:00 - 3:00. Faculty and students from all arts disciplines at BC will be available to meet you and answer questions.

Here is a brief list of some of the performance offerings in the Music Department:

  • Boston College Symphony Orchestra University Chorale of Boston College
  • Private lessons in instruments and voice Instrumental Chamber Music*
  • Vocal Chamber Music*
  • BC Flute Choir BC Cello Ensemble* BC Piano Ensemble*
  • BC Baroque (strings) spring semester only
  • Opera Workshop* (includes operetta and musical theatre)
  • Popular Styles Ensemble Improvisation, Levels I - III
  •  Irish Fiddle, Tin Whistle and Traditional Irish Dance

*Students interested in auditioning for one of the groups marked with * are required to attend the Music Department meetings, but we encourage students with interests in any aspects of performance to come.

I look forward to meeting many of you!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at hebertsa@bc.edu or the Music Department Administrator Eliana Diaz at diazea@bc.edu or at 617-552-8720 - her office is in Lyons 416.  You can also visit the Music Department home page (bc.edu/music) where you can find more information about: rehearsal times and their locations, audition and lesson sign-ups, teacher contact information, etc.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer, and see you in a couple of weeks!

Regards,

Sandra Hebert
