Smith College Center for Women in Mathematics

Smith College offers two programs for women in mathematics: a Junior Program and a Postbaccalaureate Program. The Junior Program is for undergraduate women who would like to spend one or both semesters of their junior year in a mathematically intense environment; sophomores and seniors will also be considered. The Postbaccalaureate Program is for women for bachelor's degrees who did not major in mathematics, or whose mathematics major was light. Some financial aid and support is available. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The preferred deadline for January entrance is October 15, but applications are accepted through December 15. Research Assistant Program, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston

The Boston Fed will be accepting applications from January 1, 2010 through February 15, 2010 for its Research Assistant Program. Typical work involves conducting economic research for policy memos, and involves independently performing data collection, statistical and econometric analysis, literature reviews, and writing assignments. The position requires a two-year commitment. The Boston Fed is seeking individuals with coursework in economics, and proficiency with at least one statistical package such as MATLAB or Stata. Internship at Wolfram Research, Inc.

Wolfram Research, Inc., a powerhouse of technical innovation, is expanding their Special Projects group and looking for highly talented interns. This group works directly with Stephen Wolfram on leading-edge science, technology and business projects. Solid knowledge of Mathematica programming is required, along with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment on a diverse range of projects. Additionally, it is possible to earn one credit for participating in this internship.
