The Master of Science in Teaching is a degree awarded by the Lynch School of Education (LSOE). Application for the program is made to LSOE, and students must be accepted by both LSOE and the Mathematics Department.
The M.S.T. is a two-year program of 46 credits, of which 31 are in Education and 15 in Mathematics. Students in the program will have both a Mathematics advisor and an Education advisor. The Education component of the program includes a 12 credit Practicum, and students who finish the program receive Massachusetts Certification for secondary mathematics. Information about the Education component and application materials may be obtained from LSOE.
The Mathematics Component of the M.S.T. consists of five one-semester courses. MT804-805 Analysis course is required, and should be taken in the first year. The other three courses may be chosen from a wide range of electives, and may be taken at anytime during the program. Generally, the Education component is more structured and should be planned out before deciding when to take the Mathematics electives.
