The M.A./M.B.A. dual degree program is offered in conjunction with the Carroll Graduate School of Management (CGSOM).
The Program
The program takes three years, the first of which is the same as the Math M.A. -- 18 credits in Mathematics including MT804-805 and MT816-817. The second year is usually all Management, equivalent to the first year of the M.B.A. program.
After completion of the second year, twenty-four credits remain, twelve each in Mathematics and in Management. A student may take six management credits in the summer, in which case only eighteen credits need be taken in the third year and a Mathematics Teaching Fellowship is possible. Alternatively, all twenty-four management credits may be taken in year three, which precludes a Teaching Fellowship, although some Research Fellowships in CGSOM may be available.
Program Requirements
The Mathematics requirements for the dual degree program are identical to the regular Mathematics M.A., including the Comprehensive Exam, except that only 30 credits (rather than 33) are required and the Graduate Seminar is not required. The Management requirements amount to the M.B.A. requirements minus 12 credits of electives.
Application and Acceptance
Students who wish to enter the dual degree program should apply to the Mathematics M.A. program and include a note that they wish to be considered for the M.A./M.B.A. program. They should contact admissions in CGSOM to find out what additional materials will be needed for the application to the M.B.A. program; these additional materials could be sent to CGSOM directly or included with the M.A. application, whichever is more convenient.
Upon acceptance into the Mathematics M.A. program, the application folder will be forwarded to CGSOM for consideration there. Students must be accepted into both programs.
