Admission into Honors Program

The Honors Program Director, on the basis of a review process completed by the University’s Office of Admission, writes to qualified high school seniors at the time of their admission and invites them to participate in the Program. The Admission Office uses several criteria in their selection process: high-school achievement, aptitude test scores, teacher recommendations, and the content and quality of application essays and other writing samples. Some students are also offered admission as sophomores each year, on the recommendation of instructors in their first-year courses and on the basis of exceptionally strong academic performance. To continue in good standing in the Program, a student must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.40. About 140 students will eventually be accepted into the Program.
