The Department of History is one of the largest departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, with 35 full-time faculty members and over 600 history majors. The department offers the undergraduate student a variety of courses in European, American, Latin American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and African history.
With careful planning and the advice of faculty members, students can develop a sequence of courses that will prepare them for the fields of law, government, foreign service, and careers in various international organizations, journalism, business, or teaching at the elementary, secondary, or college levels.
The departmental Director of Undergraduate Studies is the faculty member who approves transfer credits for history electives (including summer school courses), advises Foreign Study applicants, and approves history elective course overrides and advanced placement credits. To find out his office hours and/or to declare a history major, see the Undergraduate Programs Assistant
