HS-093-02 Modern History I

spring semester

Ely Janis

This course examines the expansion of the capitalist world market system from 1500 to 1800 and the changes it wrought in Europe and the rest of the globe. We begin with a discussion of the preconditions within Europe for this expansion.  We continue with an extended examination of empires, trade, and cultural exchanges, particularly in the Americas.  We conclude with the Enlightenment and the short-term and long-term effects of revolutions in France and America.
