Prof. Lisa DiCaprio

This course traces the development of western society in the 19th and 20th centuries. Special emphasis will be placed on the question of "rights". Who has them? Who does not? What rights do they have? How does this change over time? What tactics have been used to win and/or deny rights? Topics include European revolutions, industrialization, women's history, nationalism, imperialism, war, genocide, decolonization and reconstruction after WW II.
