Arts Festival
The arts on campus are highlighted each year by the Boston College Arts Festival, with the Fine Arts Department taking a prominent role. Student art and films are featured in outdoor and indoor exhibits, as well as in various art demonstrations, which are presented along with performing, visual, and literary arts events. The festival is free and open to the public, and includes special activities and events designed for alumni and children of the community. Jacques Salmanowitz Program
The Jacques Salmanowitz Program for Moral Courage in Film is devoted to encouraging the production of social justice films concerned with acts of moral courage, providing role models for youth worldwide. The Salmanowitz Program was established by a five-year grant (March, 2001) from the Documentaries International Film and Video Foundation, Washington, D.C.
Religion and Arts
Religion and the Arts is a quarterly journal which promotes the development of new discourses for exploring the religious dimensions of the verbal, visual, and performing arts in the context of contemporary theory and culture. Established in 1996, Religion and the Arts is an interdisciplinary publication where interpretations of old and new works can appear. Fine Arts faculty edit and contribute to this journal on a regular basis, and have published articles on medieval art, baroque architecture, modern artists as diverse as Oskar Kokoschka and Andy Warhol, and film, as well as contemporary liturgical art.
