Academic Profile
Professor Yanno has been teaching at Boston College since September 1989. He taught law to undergraduates in the Carroll School of Management until 2000 when he began teaching screenwriting in the Film Studies Department. His courses include Screenwriter (FM301), which looks at the role of the screenwriter in the film-making process; Advanced Screenwriting (FM303), a seminar-style writing class in which students put to use all they learned in Screenwriter toward writing their own scripts; and Advanced Screenwriting II (FM396), in which students from Advanced finish their own full-length feature film scripts.
Prior to becoming a screenwriter, screenwriting professor, and author, Drew was a practicing attorney and law professor. In 1993 he began his writing career and sold his first script to Hollywood two years later. In 2006 Drew’s book The Third Act: Writing a Great Ending to Your Screenplay was published by Continuum Publishing Group. The Third Act is one of the most popular screenwriting books on Amazon and is used by a number of screenwriting professors at several film programs across the country. Since then, Drew has written more than a dozen screenplays. He has been a member of the Writers Guild of America since 1995.
