To support a broad range of course offerings, the Communication Department has assigned full-time faculty to teach the required classes and hired part-time professionals to teach the applied courses. While there are some exceptions, this scheduling strategy has allowed the department to offer a broad curriculum taught by appropriate instructors. Our introductory classes (Rhetorical Traditional and Survey of Mass Communication), research methods, theory classes, and writing-intensive seminars are taught by full-time faculty with Ph.D.s in communication, while our applied courses are taught by part-time faculty with relevant professional experience. The result is an innovative curriculum that grounds students in communication studies while providing the practical training necessary to be competitive in the marketplace.
