Raquel Small ’10
Raquel Small ’10 was initially drawn to Boston College for the same reason so many are – a beautiful campus, sense of community, and strong liberal arts program. The Communication Department, she says, is highly respected and offers a wide breadth of courses. Her initial interest in public relations evolved as she took courses in areas such as Violence and Media, Cyberlaw, and Gender Roles in Communication. Raquel made the most of her time at BC, double majoring in Communication and English and completing a summer internship. She advises current students to “…take every class that you’re interested in.” While not initially apparent, she realizes the inter-connectedness of her courses and appreciates having a broad understanding of media and societal trends.
Currently Raquel is employed with Google, Inc. as a legal assistant for the Online Products Support team. She credits her professors with sparking an interest in communication and the Internet, as well as helping her to hone her writing skills, think critically, and analyze information. “I apply the things I learned in school almost every day,” she says.
