James Olufowote holds a B.S. from Ithaca College, an M.A. from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University. His areas of concentration are organizational communication and health communication.
His research, taking place in applied contexts (i.e., workplace and health care), lies at the intersection of (a) the roles and uses of power and (b) communication ethics and participation in decision making. His most recent research focuses on informed consent to treatment.
Dr. Olufowote's articles can be found in refereed communication journals such as Management Communication Quarterly and Health Communication and interdisciplinary and international journals such as Qualitative Health Research and Journal of Language and Social Psychology.
He serves on the editorial boards of Management Communication Quarterly, Communication Quarterly, and Contemporary Issues in Health Communication: Theoretical and Practical Case Studies by Kendall Hunt publishing. His courses include Communication and Culture in the Workplace, Communication Research Methods, Human Communication Theory, and Organizational Communication.
