Ashley Duggan (Ph.D. University of California, Santa Barbara, 2003) is assistant professor in the Communication Department at Boston College, where she teaches Research Methods and Health Communication.

Dr. Duggan's main research interests include nonverbal, relational, and health communication. She is currently working on projects examining interpersonal control tactics in romantic couples including one depressed individual, emotional experience and expression in provider-patient contexts, nonverbal communication behaviors in conversations about physical and mental health, and family communication surrounding illness.

She has been awarded nine "top paper" awards at national and international communication conferences. Her scholarship has been published in several leading communication journals such as Communication Monographs, Human Communication Research, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Journal of Health Communication, and Health Communication, as well as in several edited books. She is on the editorial board for Journal of Health Communication and Communication Research Reports and serves as mentorship chair for the International Association for Relationship Research.
