Alumni Spotlight: Charles Johannes named Head of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES)

Dr. Charles Johannes has assumed the role of Head of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES). He will hold a joint appointment at the Experimental Therapeutics Center (ETC) under the Agency of Science and Technology (A*STAR) for the Singapore government. In this new role, Dr. Johannes’ work will encompass drug discovery, green chemistry, process research and specialty chemicals. A doctoral student working in Professor Amir H. Hoveyda’s group, he received his PhD in 1998. Most recently, Dr. Johannes was the Director of Chemistry at Forma Therapeutics..
Alumni Notes

Sabrina Heng, Ph.D. ’09 in Professor Evan Kantrowitz’s group, is a Super Science Fellow at the University of Adelaide in Australia. The Super Science Fellowships program was established by the Australian Research Council to attract and retain outstanding early-career researchers in three key areas: space and astronomy; marine and climate; and future industries.  Dr. Heng was awarded the “Super Science Fellowship” to work on new kinds of nanomachines that are controlled by light.

Dr. Jianhong Hu, Ph.D. ’94, currently employed as a Senior Software Engineer with Nokia Inc.

Dr. John McCormack, B.S. ’59, continued his education at Yale University where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1964. He is a Professor of Pharmacology, Emeritus, at the University of Vermont, and is still teaching at their College of Medicine.

Stephen Manzik, B.S. ’81, is Lead Chemistry at The Dow Chemical Company’s Electronic Materials Division.
