Beckman Scholars Program

Beckman Scholars 2007-08 Beckman Scholar Ted Koellhoffer with his faculty mentor from the Biology Department, Prof. Daniel Kirschner

The Beckman Scholars Program is a highly-competitive invited program sponsored by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.  The goal of this program is to encourage research by gifted undergraduates in biology, biochemistry, and chemistry.  The Foundation provides scholarships that contribute significantly in advancing the education, research training, and personal development of selected students.

Beckman Scholars work on a research project with a faculty member full-time over the course of two summers and part-time during one academic year.  They participate in weekly lab meetings and meet monthly with other Beckman Scholars.  During their second summer in the program, Scholars will participate in a two-day Annual Beckman Scholars Research Symposium where they will have the opportunity to present their research and network with other scientists.

The Beckman Scholars Program fits well with the commitment of Boston College and its faculty to share the rewards of research with undergraduates.  For more information about the Beckman Scholars program, please contact Ms. Kristen Adrien in the Biology Department or Prof. David McFadden in the Chemistry Department.
