New Undergraduate Concentration: Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field of study combining aspects of Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science. For more information about this new opportunity for undergraduates please visit the Concentration in Bioinformatics homepage.
June 2016: Dr. Danielle Taghian was awarded the Phi Betta Kappa Award from the Honors Society for positively influencing her students both inside and outside the classroom. Dr. Taghian is an assistant professor of the practice in the department, teaching courses in Molecular Biology as well as the Honors Thesis Seminar. May 2016: Graduating senior and Biology major Grace Lisius won the 2016 McCarthy Prize in Natural Sciences for her Scholar of the College thesis titled "Vegetation Community Response to Hydrologic and Geomorphic Changes Following Dam Removal in a New England River." The award is given to those that exemplify academic excellence and substantial independent study in thier undergraduate fields. Grace will start at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the fall.

Each semester the Biology Department hosts a weekly seminar series, held each Tuesday in Higgins 310 at 3:00pm. See the 2016-2017 schedule for details.

Featured Event: Graduate students are invited to a Graduate Research Open House on Thursday, November 3rd in the O'Neill Library Third Floor Reading Room from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. This is a special opportunity for graduate students to meet their subject librarian, learn about the best resources in their field, and discover support for their scholarship and teaching. Light refreshments will be served.
