FACULTY POSITION
COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY/BIOINFORMATICS
The Boston College Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of computational biology/bioinformatics. Applicants are sought primarily at the Assistant Professor level; however, exceptionally strong candidates at senior levels will also be considered. The university provides competitive start-up funds and research space with the expectation that the successful candidate will establish, or bring to the university, a vigorous, externally funded research program. New faculty will be expected to train graduate students and teach at the undergraduate level.
The successful candidate will join an active computational biology team including four faculty members, numerous postdocs and doctoral students, and professional staff. Current strengths are in high-throughput sequence analysis and genetic variation discovery, genome evolution, lipidomics, and RNA structure prediction. In this search cycle we are mainly interested in a colleague whose research direction is in the analysis of high-throughput genomics data (e.g. DNA sequence analysis, functional annotation, statistical/population/disease genetics, cancer epigenetics). Ability to synergize with current bioinformatics faculty as well as experimental research groups (see http://www.bc.edu/biology) will be essential. Candidates working in areas with clear relevance to human health and those with a demonstrated ability to secure research funding will be given priority.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a statement of research/teaching plans and arrange to have three letters of reference sent electronically to bioinformatics@bc.edu, attention Bioinformatics Search Committee. Completed applications must be submitted by November 15, 2009.
Boston College is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
