General Great Plains
  • Institute for Regional Studies--The mission of the Institute for Regional Studies is to foster understanding of regional life through research on, teaching about, and service to those regions with particular importance to North Dakota State University. These regions include the Red River Valley, the state of North Dakota, the plains of North America (comprising both the Great Plains of the United States and the prairies of Canada), and comparable regions of other continents.
Southern Studies
  • Biscayne Bay Digital Library--A site devoted to the study of Biscayne Bay near Miami.
  • Center for the Study of Southern Culture--Information about the various activities and programs directed by the Center.
  • Documenting the South--Documenting the American South (DAS) is a collection of sources on Southern history, literature and culture from the colonial period through the first decades of the 20th century.
  • First-Person Narratives of the American South--First-Person Narratives of the American South documents the American South from the viewpoint of Southerners.
  • Imagebase--Wide-ranging collection of images from Virginia Tech. Especially strong in Southern historical images and Appalachian images.
  • Sounds of the South--An on-line, audio-file-enhanced, version of the music section of the journal of the Center for the Study of the American South.
  • The Center for the Study of the American South--Home site for an interdisciplinary center which studies the American South. Includes on-line copies of its journal Southern Cultures, as well as links to on-going exhibits.
  • The Church in the Southern Black Community--The Church in the Southern Black Community traces how Southern African Americans experienced and transformed Protestant Christianity into the central institution of community life.

  • Border Studies: A Website Devoted to Literature and Culture in the Americas--This site is dedicated to the exploration and utilization of resources on the world wide web related to the emerging field of Border Studies. It is by no means comprehensive, since it reflects my specific interest in Native and Hispanic cultures of the Southwest and the literatures and cultures of the African diaspora.

  • Borders Fronteras--Extensive and educational site defining border studies, border places, people, and history.
  • Center for the Study of the Southwest--The Center for the Study of the Southwest was established in February of 1990 by University President Jerome H. Supple. "Through the Center," President Supple said, "we will collect and examine the forms of art and of thought which have over the centuries shaped this region of the world. . . . My hope is that the Center will ultimately receive international recognition for its understanding, promotion, and celebration of this unique culture we call the Southwest." The Center has a threefold mission: curriculum development, public outreach, and research.
