Graduate Programs In American Studies

American Studies is offered as a graduate degree across the country. Students can acquire a Master's (M.A.) degree in American Studies that prepares them for teaching, musueum work, and other professions in the field of the "public humanities." Students have used this degree for careers in journalism, public broadcasting, law and other occupations. And there are also dozens of Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in American Studies (and cultural studies); several of the faculty members at Boston College have interdisciplinary degrees in American Studies. If you're interested, the best place to start is by connecting to the American Studies Assocation, which maintains both an on-line list of graduate programs (see the link in the right column here) and a Directory of Graduate Programs that you can order.
