Greetings AADS Minors!
Welcome back! We hope that you had a wonderful summer. As the new school year begins we wish to inform you of what is happening in the program and remind you that your AADS minor is a dynamic element of your education. To ensure that you gain the full benefit of your course of study, AADS minors are expected to be involved with the program by regular participation in your selected classes, and attendance at AADS events and meetings.
Over the summer AADS was granted faculty lines and we are pleased to announce that AADS is searching for two permanent, tenure-track faculty. AADS Minors will be invited to meet our finalists when they visit the campus throughout the Spring semester. We hope that all of you will take these opportunities to come and hear the candidates and ask questions. After all, two of these candidates could be your future professors!
If you haven’t heard, AADS offices’ were renovated over the summer. We are having an open house in November, but please stop by and see how your new AADS home looks now! Remember bring your friends and potential AADS Minors to the Open House!
PLEASE NOTE!
First, AADS Minors are required to attend two meetings per year, one each semester where Minors can ensure they are fulfilling the requirements, discuss possible courses and meet other AADS Minors. These meetings are an opportunity to build community and exchange ideas with people who share your interests. These meetings are mandatory and will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2007 and Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 4pm. Both meetings will be held in the AADS offices, Lyons Hall 301, Conference Room. Light refreshments will be served.
Second, the African & African Diaspora Studies Program will hold an OPEN HOUSE on Wednesday, November 7th from 4-6PM. AADS Faculty, campus culture clubs, AHANA student leaders and other students will be there. Come and visit and meet other members of your community. Don’t forget—bring your friends and potential AADS Minors. Light refreshments will be served.
Third, the African & African Diaspora Program is sponsoring a number of lectures throughout the coming academic year. I have listed the confirmed events below. You will, of course, receive follow-up reminders, updates and room assignments.
