woods college of advancing studies
Advancing Studies students display an array of qualities and range of resources that make being part of this community something special. The Advancing Studies Student Senate strives to utilize the maturity, leadership and wide variety of interests that are part of the daily experiences of the Woods College of Advancing Studies student body.
Membership in the Senate is open to all Advancing Studies degree students. Woods College of Advancing Studies students are welcome and encouraged to attend any and all meetings, and may address the Senate on any subject matter that is of concern to the Woods College of Advancing Studies students.
Since learning does not occur exclusively in the classroom, the "co-curriculum" provides meaningful experiences that add to the social and personal learning that occurs during college. Group activities outside class encourage students to apply and share some of the knowledge gained from academic studies. In so doing they can learn more about themselves and others. Students are encouraged to take part in the social and cultural activities offered. Some of these events are designed for the entire family. This is your school--your Senate--to serve a useful function your participation is needed. Please don't leave it up to the person next to you - instead ask them to join in the enthusiasm which makes being part of the Woods College of Advancing Studies so much more than just going to class and studying.
The Flynn Recreation Complex facilities accommodate a diversity of athletic activities. The field house floor accommodates basketball, tennis, racquetball, squash, volleyball, nautilus, universal weight-training machines and stairmasters. An eight-lap to a mile running track surrounds the courts. There is also an Olympic eight lane swimming pool and separate diving well. Lockers, men's and women's saunas, and a snack bar area are located on the upper deck.
There is a membership fee for the academic year. Those without membership cards may present their Eagle ID and use the facilities for a fee of $7.00 per visit. Membership cards may be purchased at the recplex. The spouse of a full-time Woods College of Advancing Studies degree student may purchase a membership card to the recplex provided he/she has a current Boston College Eagle ID card issued by Student Services, Lyons 101.
Tickets for Boston College football, hockey and basketball games are available in Conte Forum. Special student prices are offered season ticket purchasers.
