Michael Russell

Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation, Boston College

Michael is an Associate Professor in the Lynch School of Education, a Senior Research Associate for the Center for the Study of Testing Evaluation and Educational Policy, and the Director of the Technology and Assessment Study Collaborative. Mike directs several projects, including the Diagnostic Algebra Assessment Project, the e-Learning for Educators Research and Evaluation Study, the On-Line Professional Education Research Study, a series of computer-based testing accommodation and validity studies. Mike is the founder and Chief Editor of the Journal of Technology, Learning, and Assessment. He has also been affiliated with the Center for the Study of Testing, Evaluation, and Educational Policy (CSTEEP) since 1994. His research interests lie at the intersection of technology, learning, and assessment and include applications of technology to testing and impacts of technology on students and their learning. In addition to his current research, Mike has conducted a series of randomized experiments that examine the impact of paper-based tests on the performance of students accustomed to writing on computers and has conducted several mixed methods studies that examine impacts of technology on teaching and learning.

 

Joseph Pedulla

Associate Professor, Boston College

Joe directs the evaluation of the e-Learning for Educators project, which delivers online professional development to teachers in eight states. He is also involved in research examining aspects of teacher preparation that make a difference in their pupils' learning as part of the Teachers for a New Era project. Both projects involve questionnaire development and large-scale data collection efforts, which are additional research interests of his.

 

Laura O'Dwyer

Assistant Professor, Boston College

Laura has contributed to numerous studies that examined issues such as the relationship between tracking practices and mathematics achievement, the impact of a technology-infused professional development program on student and teacher outcomes, the effects of a capacity building online professional development program on teacher practice, and the relationship between the organizational characteristics of schools and teachers' use of technology as a teaching and learning tool. She currently works on the eLearning Initiative funded under the Ready to Teach program.

 

Damian Bebell

Assistant Research Professor, Boston College

Damian Bebell is an Assistant Research Professor at Boston College's Lynch School of Education and a Research Associate at the Technology and Assessment Study Collaborative. Damian is currently directing multiple evaluation studies investigating the effects of 1:1 technology programs on teaching and learning including collaborative research with the Boston Public Schools and the Berkshire Wireless Learning Initiative. His research interests include the development and refinement of methodological tools to document the impacts of educational technology on learning, education reform, testing, and 1:1 computing.

 

Thomas Hoffmann

Research Associate, Boston College

Tom is interested in interface design, with a focus on Universal Design principles and usability. He oversees the interface design and production of inTASC Research projects involving laptop and Internet data collection.

 

Sheralyn Dash

Research Associate, Boston College

Sheralyn is currently a Research Associate working on the e-Learning for Educators Research Study. The primary goal of this study is to evaluate the impact of online professional development on teacher quality and students' academic achievement. Sheralyn's research interests include using technology as a pedagogical tool to improve students' school engagement, self efficacy and ultimately students' academic achievement.

 

Jennifer Higgins

Research Associate, Boston College

Jennifer is conducting research in the area of technology and assessment. Previous research includes the Talking Tactile Tablet study and text analysis of classroom observations for the AlphaSmart study. Her interests lie in improving student education through technology based learning systems.

 

Aimee Levy

Research Associate, Boston College

As a graphic designer Aimee's role is to support all inTASC projects by presenting the materials in a clear and functional visual manner. Materials range from journal articles, research proposals and reports, to websites, presentations and study interfaces.

 

Nick Marano

Web Application Developer/Database Administrator, Boston College

Nick is responsible for the functionality and performance of all inTASC projects. Maintaining data integrity is a high priority for Nick, as inTASC uses this information to further our research projects.

 

Jessica Masters

Research Associate, Boston College

Jessica's research interests include exploring the best ways that technology can support teaching, learning, and assessment through the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational technology. Jessica is currently working on the e-Learning for Educators Research Study, a large-scale randomized experiment examining the effects of online professional development on teacher knowledge, teacher practices, and student learning.

 

Helena Miranda

Research Associate, Boston College

Helena is a Research Associate who is currently working on the online Diagnostic Algebra Assessment Study. She has also worked on two Enhancing State Assessment studies: the Read Aloud Study and the Verbal Response Study. Both ESA studies investigated the use of technology to deliver testing accommodations. Helena’s research interests include the use of technology to deliver testing accommodations, and the use of instructional technology to improve teaching and learning.

 

Kathleen Rhoades

Research Associate, Boston College

Kathleen Rhoades is a Research Associate currently working on a large scale evaluation for the e-Learning for Educators eight-state online professional development initiative. A primary evaluation focus is to study the initiative's impact on "high need" schools. Kathleen's research interests include the modeling of latent variables and trend data, as well as the examination of the impacts and quality of testing programs in the U.S. and abroad.
