Thomas B. Murphy

Thomas B. Murphy is a trustee of the T. B. Murphy Foundation Charitable Trust, which was founded in 1987. He received a B.S. at Boston College, and an M.S. at the University of Michigan. He is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries.
He was Executive Vice-President of the Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company and later served on the board of directors. He served as Group Vice President of Maccabees Mutual Insurance Company. He was Chairman and one of the principal owners of TOP, Inc. He was Chairman of the Board and principal owner through 1997 of Spring Arbor Distribution Company, a distributor of religious books. Thomas B. Murphy is a trustee of the Westin Jesuit School of Theology and of Madonna University. He is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries. He holds an honorary degree from Madonna University. Among his charitable activities, he is a volunteer in the Prevention, Probation, and Prisons program in Detroit, which seeks to reduce recidivism among ex-prisoners by pairing them with volunteers rather than probation officers. For the past eighteen years, Thomas B. Murphy has supported and consulted on research at the Boston College Center on Wealth and Philanthropy. He is author of several articles relating to wealth and philanthropy and speaks frequently on these topics at conferences.
