Pope John Paul II's dedication to improving the Catholic-Jewish relationship will be remembered as one of the most important legacies of his long papacy. Many people are aware of his important actions in this regard, especially his visits to Auschwitz, to the Great Synagogue of Rome, and to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
What may be less widely known is the extent of his theological contributions to the Catholic-Jewish rapprochement. This was a his constant concern and his efforts greatly advanced the reforms begun by the Second Vatican Council's 1965 declaration Nostra Aetate.
This slide show presents many important quotations from John Paul II about Jews and Judaism.
