October 2009—The Fact Sheet: Older Workers' Preferences for Work and Employment, based on recent research from the Sloan Center on Aging & Work and other studies, looks into what older workers are looking for out of their employment opportunities late in life. The fact sheet shows that more than half of working adults ages 50–64 are thinking about delaying retirement, and many more feel they may never stop working. The reasons largely financial, such as the loss in value of their 401 (k) plans and rising health care costs. And what kinds of work situations do older employees want? Ones that offer increased flexibility and better work-life balance.
