50 Years Later: Women, Work, & the Work Ahead

10 December 2013 - Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes, director of the center will be speaking at the Department of Labor symposium to mark the 50th Anniversary of “American Women: Report of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, 1963”. Eleanor Roosevelt chaired the Commission until her death in 1962. The Commission released the 1963 Report on October 11, her birthday. The Executive Vice Chair of the Commission was Esther Peterson, the Women’s Bureau National Director, an Assistant Secretary of Labor, and the highest ranking woman in the Kennedy Administration. The Bureau is delighted to be able to honor the Commission’s work while looking at the progress of the status of women in the workplace over the past 50 years and the challenges which remain.
