Almost 40% of Women Aged 55-64 Are Not in the Labor Force, Compared to about 25% of Men

In 2013, among women aged 55-64 years of age, 56.1% were employed, 5.6% unemployed, and the rest (38.3%) not in the labor force. In comparison, the rates for men aged 55-64 were 69.9% employed, 6.3% unemployed, and 23.8% not in the labor force, according to a 2014 analysis of data from the Current Population Survey.
