About 1 in 4 Older Adults Volunteered in 2012

The 2012 volunteer rate (the percentage of the population who volunteered at least once between September 2011 and September 2012) was 26.5 percent. By age groups, “35- to 44-year-olds were most likely to volunteer (31.6 percent). Volunteer rates were lowest among 20- to 24-year-olds (18.9 percent)." For persons aged 45-54, 55-64, and 65+, the volunteer rates were 29.3%, 27.6%, and 24.4%, respectively, according to a 2013 Bureau of Labor Statistics report.
