| Despite Recession, Slight Increase in Older Worker Labor Force Participation
Labor force participation rates by age declined slightly from 2009 to 2010 for all age groups except for those aged 55+, which increased from 39.9% in 2009 to 40.1% in 2010, a change of +0.2%, according to a 2011 analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics employment indicators. The largest decrease in labor force participation occurred in the 35-44 year age group, which dropped from 83.2% in 2009 to 80.9% in 2010, a change of -2.3%.
