The members of the Strategy Council work with the Center Director to:

  • Ensure the strategic orientation of the Center is well aligned with its quality of employment mission
  • Position the Center as a center of excellence for today’s global multi-generational talent management
  • Build a sustainable, diverse resource base to support the Center’s agenda for research and employer engagement
One meeting of the full Council is scheduled each year, supplemented by 2 conference calls.

Members of the Strategy Council:

  • are invited to special meetings and events convened by the Center
  • have access to the Center’s proprietary resources, including specialized databases (such as the Literature Database, the Facts Databases)

The Strategy Council includes representatives from four of the Center’s primary stakeholder groups:

  1. Boston College
    The members of the Boston College Advisory Committee have special responsibilities for ensuring that the BC community is aware of the Center’s accomplishments and linking the Center to BC resources.
  2. Workplace
    Three employer representatives are members of the Strategy Council and contribute to the development of new workplace-based initiatives.
  3. Research
    Three distinguished researchers are members of the Council. These members bring expertise relevant to the Center’s emphasis on engagement in productive aging and quality of employment.
  4. Global and Comparative Culture
    Individuals with expertise relevant to multi-national studies and global organizations will provide advice so that the Center’s research and employer engagement activities are put in the context of today’s global society.

Mary Catherine Bateson, PhD

Visiting Scholar
Sloan Center on Aging & Work, Boston College

Catherine Bateson was the Clarence J. Robinson Professor of Anthropology and English at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and is now Professor Emerita. Since 2006, she has been working with the Center on Aging and Work/Workplace Flexibility at Boston College as a visiting scholar.

Martin B. Tracy

Martin B. Tracy is an experienced analyst and researcher on social security and policy issues related to elderly women in an international context and on community-based social services in economically developing nations. He has held professional positions with the U.S. Social Security Administration’s Office of International Policy, the International Social Security Association, and the International Labour Organization. His academic positions have been with the University of Iowa, Southern Illinois University, and the University of Kentucky. He was a Fulbright Senior Specialist in Social Work at the University of Bucharest, Romania in fall 2004.
