Susan M. Sipprelle

Writer, Journalist, and Founder of Tree of Life Productions

Susan M. Sipprelle is a multimedia journalist, columnist, photographer and founder of Tree of Life Productions, producer of the online project Over 50 and Out of Work. Currently, Tree of Life Productions is creating on a feature-length documentary exposing the devastating impact of unemployment and underemployment on older Americans.

Susan has appeared on ABC News@WORK with Tory Johnson and been interviewed on CBS News and Growing Bolder radio shows about Over 50 and Out of Work, which has also been featured in The Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal Digital Network, The Nation, and The Oregonian. In June 2011, Susan testified before the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension committee about the project's findings.

Susan writes a monthly column for and has also published articles in The New York Times, Manhattan Media Community newspapers, the Gotham Gazette, Autism Advocate, WoodenBoat magazine and the North Jersey Media Group publications. Her photography has accompanied many of her news stories. Her photography has been featured in solo exhibits, and her photographs have been displayed at juried shows in New Jersey, New York and Illinois.

Susan graduated with honors from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2008, with distinction from New York University's Stern School of Business in 1991 and cum laude from Williams College in 1980. She lives in the New York metropolitan area, but grew up in Rhode Island. She and her husband, Dwight, have five children.
