David Brooks, one of America's most prominent political commentators, will deliver the Clough Colloquium this Monday, March 22, at 4:30 p.m. in Gasson 100.

Brooks writes a bi-weekly op-ed column in the New York Times and is a regular analyst on "News Hour with Jim Lehrer" and National Public Radio's "All Things Considered." His visit has been organized by the Winston Center for Leadership and Ethics in the Carroll School of Management.

"David Brooks is one of the most thoughtful journalists in the world today," said Richard Keeley, associate dean for undergraduates at the Carroll School and director of programs at the Winston Center. "He has the rare ability to combine deep reflection with current topicality. I know Boston College students will relish the opportunity to listen and learn from him."

Brooks will discuss current political topics such as presidential leadership, political trends heading into the mid-term elections, and domestic and global economic currents.

Brooks has authored the books On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) in the Future Tense and Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There, and edited the anthology Backward and Upward: The New Conservative Writing. He has served as a contributing editor at Newsweek and the Atlantic Monthly, written for The New Yorker, Forbes, and the Washington Post, among others.

The Clough Colloquium Series recognizes individuals who have made important contributions as ethical leaders in their fields and calls upon them to share what they have learned on their journey to becoming leaders through symposia, conferences and public events.

Closely following Brooks' appearance will be former NFL general manager and current CBS Sports analyst Charley Casserly, who will deliver the Chambers Lecture next Thursday at 5 p.m. in The Heights Room in Corcoran Commons.

The former general manager of the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans, Casserly spent 29 years as an NFL executive. He now appears weekly on the program "The NFL Today."

He has local roots, beginning his career as an assistant coach at Cathedral High School in Springfield and moving on to hold a similar job at his alma mater, Springfield College.

Casserly, who is also Executive in Residence/Instructor of Sport Management in George Mason University's Sports Management Program, will offer his perspective and guidance to help students become ethical leaders in the future.
