Rattigan Professor Crane Is Named Interim ILA Director

Thomas Rattigan Professor of English Mary Crane has been named interim director of the University’s Institute of Liberal Arts (ILA), Provost and Dean of Faculties Cutberto Garza announced last week.Crane succeeds David Quigley, the institute’s inaugural director, who this summer was appointed dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The ILA coordinates, supports and integrates activities in liberal arts across campus, through interdisciplinary research, publications, curricular development and events that support undergraduate and graduate education.
Announcing the appointment, Garza said Crane “will bring a broadly interdisciplinary approach to the institute’s programs and continue the efforts of [Quigley] to ensure that liberal arts remain at the forefront of our academic strategic priorities.”
Crane, who chairs the English Department, has been a member of the Boston College faculty since 1986 and was appointed as Rattigan Professor this past summer.
