The University’s Center for Student Formation has strengthened its leadership with the recent appointments of Burton Howell and Katherine O’Dair as associate directors.

Howell, director of the Boston College Intersections Project, and O’Dair, executive director of the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, were named to their new positions late last month by Provost and Dean of Faculties Cutberto Garza. Both will retain their current responsibilities while working with the Center for Student Formation.

The mission of the center, which formally opened last year under the direction of Professor of Political Science Jennie Purnell, is to coordinate University programs and activities that foster, and integrate, students’ intellectual, spiritual, social and moral development.

Howell and O’Dair will assist Purnell in helping to foster collaboration among Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the Office of University Mission and Ministry in developing a University-wide approach to student formation. The three will prepare a five to ten-year strategic plan for student formation; craft an institutional strategy for assessing levels of intellectual, social, moral, and spiritual development from matriculation through graduation; and develop programs and resources for faculty and administrative staff.
