Boston College has an experienced Emergency Preparedness Team in place. Its members have created a comprehensive set of emergency response procedures to deal with crisis situations, and a number have undertaken National Incident Management System (NIMS) training offered by the Dept. of Homeland Security.
In the event of an emergency, the University has the capacity to communicate with all of its students, faculty and staff through e-mail and phone messaging, BC Info and this web site, as well as its emergency information line at 617-552-INFO. In addition, our Resident Assistants are trained to alert students in residence halls of any emergency situation.
We will conduct comprehensive assessments of all available mass notification technologies on an ongoing basis to ensure our ability to communicate effectively in the event of any unforeseen incident.
While no institution is invulnerable to safety threats, we feel that the emergency management teams in place and the procedures under which they operate are designed to make Boston College as prepared and responsive as possible. We reevaluate plans on an ongoing basis with the goal of maintaining a model emergency response system that meets the federal government's National Incident Management System Protocol.
In the event of an emergency, members of the University Community may be asked to follow one of two common procedures:
Building Evacuation
Shelter-in-Place
BC's emergency response team also is monitoring possible threats at the national and international levels, and will provide information here as warranted.
