Environmental Health and Safety
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety within the Facilities Management Department implements environmental and occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with all relevant governmental laws and regulations. The office manages environmental programs, areas of hazardous and regulated waste, spill pollution prevention and environmental management for laboratories. It also oversees programs and regulations concerning air pollution prevention, waste water, storm water, and oil spill prevention.
Scientific Safety
Information on biological, chemical and radiation safety, as well as the management of hazardous materials and waste, can be found at the Office of Environmental Health and Safety website. In addition to being a comprehensive and valuable resource on those issues, EHS conducts a number of training programs and provides compliance oversight, advice and assistance. EHS is represented on a number of compliance committees, and it collaborates with the Office for Research Compliance and Intellectual Property Management on such matters as compliance with the federal select agent regulations.
