Welcome to the start of an exciting four years at Boston College. The following activities are designed to assist your transition to college life and connect you with many of the opportunities, offices, and people on campus.

We invite you to take advantage of as many of these activities as you can. Please note that some of the events are mandatory for all first-year students.


All students are required to view BC Safe, an educational video, prior to arriving on campus. Log on to bc.edu/lms to accessBC Safe.

First Year, First Night

Gather with your Resident Assistant to meet the people on your floor.

BBQ & Ice Cream Social ★
6 p.m. | Newton & Campus Green

Enjoy a BBQ dinner with Resident Assistants, classmates, and other members of the Boston College community. Then chill out with ice cream served by your very own Boston College Police Department.

Meet building staff and discuss the type of community you will live in. Ask questions and learn about the resources offered through the Office of Residential Life.

Faculty, staff, and students will provide information on specialized academic programs and majors/minors, volunteer opportunities, campus retreats, campus recreation, intramurals, student employment, and other opportunities available at Boston College. Explore the opportunities at your own pace and connect with people who can answer your questions and provide you with valuable information.

Lynch School of Education Orientation and Lunch★

First-year students in the Lynch School of Education will meet the Deans, first-year ERA instructors, peer mentors, and fellow classmates. You will preview different programs of study and participate in small group, community-building activities.


Arts and Sciences Pre-major Advisor Lunch
11 a.m.–1 p.m. | Conte Forum
Students will receive an email Thursday, August 28 with their seating time
(either 11 a.m. or 12 p.m.) and advisor assignments.


All College of Arts and Sciences first-year students will meet their pre-major faculty advisors to discuss their academic plans and advising resources for their four years at Boston College.

Connell School of Nursing Orientation and Lunch
11 a.m.–1 p.m. | Cushing Hall 001

Nursing students will meet their peer advisors for lunch and will be introduced to the Nursing faculty and technology resources.

Portico Trip to Boston (Carroll School of Management Students Only)
10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. | Fulton Hall Honors Commons

All first-year Carroll School students will meet their Portico Teaching Assistants in their assigned classroom locations prior to leaving for Boston.

Gold Pass Game: BC Volleyball vs. Holy Cross

DiscoverBOSTON Excursions
1:30 p.m. | Conte Forum Bus Stop

Journey into Boston with faculty, staff, or upperclass students to learn more about the wonderful city of Boston and all it has to offer. Meet your excursion leaders and travel into the city as a group. Trips will last approximately three to four hours.

SuperFan 101
6:30 p.m. | Conte Forum
Join members of the BC football team, Spirit Squad, and Screaming Eagles Marching Band for an introduction to the SuperFan rituals and traditions of gameday. Learn how to get involved in intramurals and club sports, and don’t forget to pick up your pair of 2014 SuperFan sunglasses.

The Class of 2018 Takes Over Target!
10 p.m. | Bus loading at College Road Bus Stop, Newton Campus Bus Stop

The local Target store will be open solely for you! Enjoy shopping with your classmates, find gear for your room, and pick up any last-minute items before classes begin.

During this time, the bookstore will be open exclusively for first year students.

BC-X Fitness
1 p.m. | Newton Quonset Hut

Join Campus Recreation for BC-X Fitness. In this class, instructors lead plyometric exercises and body weight strength moves. Expect high-intensity, high-impact interval training in this cardiovascular and muscular endurance workout!

Opening of Exhibition
6:30 p.m. | McMullen Museum of Art & the Plaza at O’Neill

Get a first look at "Wifredo Lam: Imagining New Worlds" tonight at the McMullen Museum of Art. Born in Cuba to parents of Chinese, Spanish, and African descent, surrealist artist Wifredo Lam expands cultural boundaries and provides a new context for art in a globalized world. Dance under the stars to the music of BC bOp!. Refreshments will be served.

A Capella Concert: Sounds of September

Enjoy the melodious harmonies of our talented A Capella organizations in an outdoor setting.  From gospel to rhythm and blues, all kinds of music will ring across the Heights. Socialize, meet new friends, and relax before classes begin.

Fall Interim Group Fitness Classes Start

Check out the interim group fitness schedule for a first-week sampling of what Campus Recreation has to offer to keep you fit and healthy throughout the semester!

Reservoir Run/Walk
11 a.m.

Lace up your sneakers for a casual run around a popular campus trail. Meet at the entrance to the Rec Plex and head out for a two-mile jog led by members of the Campus School Volunteers. Meet fellow runners and learn some local trails. Runners of all levels welcome.

Quick Tips: Use your free afternoon to tour campus and find your classrooms before the start of classes!

In addition, remember to stop by the bookstore to pick up any books you need. Did you know that if you live on Newton Campus you can order your books to be delivered to you? To learn more visit bc.edu/bookstore.

Intramural 3v3 Basketball Tournament
12:45 p.m.  | Quonset Hut, Newton Campus

Participate in the first intramural event of the year and learn more about additional intramural programs and job opportunities available at the Plex. Open to the first 12 freshmen 3 person basketball teams that sign up. No fee and registration is on sight.
